The brief history of mammalogical research in Türkiye
The mammalogical studies (systematics, population genetics and phylogeny) in Anatolia or Asia Minor (currently Republic of Türkiye) had been started by the mostly foreign researchers before the foundation of Republic of Türkiye in the year of 1923.

The mammalogical researches have been the mostly performed by Turkish mammologist after 1970s. Prof. Dr. Bahtiye Mursaloğlu who leading scientist on mammalogy was followed by her PhDs; Prof. Dr. Salih Doğramacı, Prof. Dr. Cengiz Kurtonur, Prof. Dr. Erkut Kıvanç, Prof. Dr. İrfan Albayrak, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neşet Şimşek.
Later the mammalogical researches were dominated by Prof. Dr. Haluk Kefelioğlu, Prof. Dr. Nuri Yiğit, Prof. Dr. Ercüment Çolak, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sözen, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Çoşkun, Prof. Dr. Beytullah Özkan, Prof. Dr. Çoşkun Tez, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karataş, Dr. Nahit Pamukoğlu, Prof. Dr. Şakir Önder Özkurt, Prof. Dr. Nursel Aşan Baydemir, Dr. Servet Ulutürk, Prof. Dr.Tolga Kankılıç, Prof. Dr. Teoman Kankılıç,  Prof. Dr. Ferhat Matur, Dr. Pınar Çam, Dr. Zeycan Helvacı, Dr. Bülent Gözcelioğlu, Dr. Seçkin Ozan Perinçek Şeker, Asst. Although many foreign researchers published the papers on the mammalian species of Türkiye, The leading ones are Dr. Thomas, Dr. Neuhauser, Dr. Spitzenberger, Dr. Kumerloeve, Dr. Lehman, Dr. Felten, Dr. Helversen and Dr. Krystufek and Dr. Vohralik.
